There are several manufacturers of powder actuated tools used in the suspended ceiling industry: Hilti, Ramset, Powers, Simpson and Bluepoint. The Hilti DX 350 powder actuated tool (PAT) and its cousin the DX35 has been the standard of the industry for many years. Most of the other manufacturers began making similar tools (knock offs) when Hilti’s patent expired. The extension poles offered by these manufacturers can be more expensive than the powder actuated tool itself. Luckily there are other companies making extension poles. The Long Shooter brand of pole tools for instance has a proven track record of high quality and is available at a low cost.

Typically an extension pole consists of a fiberglass pole with a means to secure the PAT tool on one end and a trigger pull on the other. The installer has to be protected from shock in case an electrical conduit is pierced by the PAT nail. Therefore, PAT extension poles are usually made of fiberglass and have a dielectric coupling to withstand up to 10,000 volts.

Ceiling wires pre-wrapped to an angle clip and a concrete pin are available at some of the larger distributors. Decide how much flexible LED strip lighting you will need for your project. Since the LED strip can only be cut every third LED, you may have to go slightly over or under your desired specification.

3. How to cut the LED strip – As you can see below, the flexible strip light can only be cut along the designated lines. Take a sharp pair of scissors and cut along the line.

4. Pay attention to positive and negative markings – IMPORTANT: Notice the positive and negative sides of the LED strip light. This is important for the next few steps. Sometimes when you cut the LED strip light, things can get mixed around.

5. Introduction to the connector – Each connector has two sides. To insure you have the correct side up, make sure the wider of the white sides faces up. This is the top. BE GENTLE and pull the locking device out away from the wires. Do not pull on the wires to do so, as the connector is fragile.

6. Attaching the connector to the LED strip – IMPORTANT: Color does not always matter! Make sure you follow the positive side of the flex strip down through the connector wire to the power supply. Red/black can either mean (+) or (-) depending on what side you have hooked the connector to.

7. Securing the tray to the LED light – In the example below, if we were to attach the connector to the other side of the flexible strip light, the red would be negative and the black positive. Next, GENTLY secure the locking tray back in place, connecting the terminals of the LED flexible strip light to the connector. Be gentle and make sure the mounting tray is securely closed, or the lights will not work.

8. Connecting the LED strip to power – You are now ready to plug your LED Flexible strip light to the LED power supply. Match the positive and negative markings with the positive and negative wires from the power supply. Make sure the power is off when you do this.

If your strip lights do not light up:

1. Wire color does not always matter! Make sure you follow the positive side of the flex strip down through the connector wire to the power supply. Red/black can either mean (+) or (-) depending on what side of the LED flex strip you have hooked the connector to.

2. Another common problem is that the connector may be installed upside down; repeat steps above and try again.

3. Also, MAKE SURE the tray is closed all the way. Be gentle!

4. Check your power supply and make sure it is hooked up properly, with correct (+) and (-) as well.

5. How many feet of LED strip are you using vs how large your power unit is? If you are using 1 reel of 24 v Ultra bright with e 2.5 amp power unit, it will not work because the power unit is too small.

Having books in the bedroom and especially if you have lots of books on a bookshelf stimulates your mind and does not promote a restful nights sleep. The easiest, and I have to say the best cure, is to take the bookshelves out and place them in another part of the house. If this is impossible or impractical cover the shelves with either cupboard doors or fabric so that you cannot see the books when you go to bed at night.

9 – A Sleigh Bed

Sleigh style beds are becoming very common in the UK and I have to say they look very stylish in a bedroom. The problem with this style of bed however is that the head and the foot curve in which can give the impression of pressing down on the occupants of the bed. To cure this problem you need to lift the energy by placing something light above the bed, a crystal will work best or a stylish light fitting.

8 – Bed too low to the ground

If your bed is too low to the ground then energy cannot flow underneath effectively. Beds ideally should have plenty of space between the mattress and the floor. Covering the beam by putting in a false ceiling or taking the beam out altogether is th best solution although this is often not practical, and to be avoided if the beam is load bearing. There are however other solutions that can be more practical and which are just as effective.

Hanging two bamboo flutes from the ceiling above the bed so that they cross the beam making a shape like the bottom of an octagon has the benefit of drawing any negative energy upwards. Alternatively you can disguise the beam with drapes of fabric that are in the colours that correspond with the bagua area of the bedroom, so pinks and creams if your bedroom is in the relationship area, reds or turquoise if it is in the wealth area or shades of green if it is in the family area.

6 – Sloping Ceilings

Having a similar effect to beams, a sloping ceiling over the bed can make the occupants of the bed feel the weight of worries and problems as they sleep. In this instance it is best to hang a crystal above the bed, remembering to hang it from a piece of red ribbon or thread that is 9 inches in length

5 – Clutter under the bed

Clutter under the bed, whether this is in drawers under the bed or piled in boxes has the effect of blocking the natural flow of chi around and underneath the bed. There is only really one cure for this, take the boxes out and store them somewhere else.

4 – Mirrored Wardrobes

A lot of people seem to favour mirrored wardrobes but they can really disrupt the natural flow of energy and have a very destructive effect on a natural night’s sleep. If you really must have mirrored wardrobes try and find someway of covering them during the night, whether that be by placing a decorative screen in front of the wardrobes or by hanging some voile across the mirrors.

3 – Metal bed

A metal bed can disturb the flow of energy around the bed harming the restful effects of positive chi. If you have a metal bed, or even just a metal headboard you can minimise the negative effects of this by covering the metal with a soft sensual fabric, silk works best

Ensure that your bathroom is kept clear of clutter, that the toilet, sink, bath and shower are all clean and in good working order and ensure fresh towel, crystals and plants are in abundance. To strengthen positive chi in the bedroom even further always ensure you keep the bathroom door closed when sleeping

1 – TV or Computer in the bedroom

Without question, the most common problem I see with bedrooms is a TV or a computer in the room. This really is not to be advised but I accept that sometimes a bedroom has a multiple of uses. If you must have a TV or computer in your bedroom, house it in a cabinet or cover it with a cloth or a blanket when it is not in use. A TV is a conduit of fast flowing electrical energy and can harm sleeping patterns leading to a disturbed night’s sleep.

Pipeline reinforcement is performed to increase the pipe wall thickness in non-leaking pipe defects. The Objective of pipeline reinforcement is to rebuild and increase the pipe wall thickness so that the resultant pipe mechanical strength is sufficient to withstand operating conditions.

Especially in industries where hot works are not easily permitted, the implementation of pipeline reinforcement via cold repair works are useful in the repair and rehabilitation works of pipelines.

Pipeline Data & Operating Conditions

Before carrying out an effective pipeline rehabilitation and reinforcement work, pipeline data and operating conditions are gathered. These data are reviewed and evaluated under international standards and guidelines such as ASME PCC2 and ISO 24817 standards and requirements, to design an effective and suitable pipeline repair and reinforcement solution.

Detailed Engineering Calculation and Application Method of Statement

Based on the pipeline data gathered, the manufacturer would design and provide a detailed engineering calculation and application technique for the pipeline repair and rehabilitation works. It is also necessary to ensure that the applicator is well-trained to apply the pipe repair wrapping products as well as a site risk assessment has been performed prior to work commencement. Proper Personnel Protective Equipment should be worn and risk mitigating/ reducing steps employed to minimize or avoid all unnecessary risks.

Step 1 – Preparing, Cleaning and Roughening of Pipe Surface

Pipe surface should be cleaned and prepared to minimum standard of St2.5. This is to ensure good bonding between the repair resin with the substrate (pipe surface). The pipe surface profile is also roughed to meet the minimum of 60 microns roughness. Once the pipe surface has been cleaned and roughened, pipeline repair and rehabilitation works should commence immediately.

Step 2 – Rebuilding to ensure Flushing of Pipe Surface

The first step in all rehabilitation works is to ensure that all pipe surfaces have been rebuilt so as to ensure surface being flush. The resin or metal putty compound is well-mixed in accordance to manufacturer’s instructions and applied onto the affected surfaces while ensuring there are no air entrapment. The repair compound is applied according to the required coating thickness and repair length specified in engineering calculation.

Step 3 – Pipeline Reinforcement via Pipe Wrapping

The final step is to pipe repair and reinforcement is wrapping of the reinforcement repair tape. Start wrapping the reinforcement repair tape over the pipe circumference just before the defect location. At each round of wrapping, wrap the pipe as tightly and evenly as possible while pulling with sufficient strength. Ensure there is 50% overlap to the previous wrapping layer. Repeat the wrapping based on the Engineering Calculation Report. The wrapping direction can be alternated between subsequent layers of wrapping to increase its final mechanical strength.

Inspection of Pipeline Repair & Reinforcement Works

Inspect the reinforced pipeline for any visual defects. Check that the repair thickness and length complies with the requirements stated in the Engineering Calculation. Allow the repaired area to be cured for several hours and the reinforcement work is completed.

Interpreters of Maladies – Sensuous Symbols

Jhumpa Lahiri won the Pulitzer Prize and received literary fame for her series of short stories. There are several symbols in one of her short stories, Interpreter of Maladies. The major symbols are: the strawberry necklace around Mrs. Das’ neck, which rested between her breasts, the naked intimate statutes at the temple which she admired, and the paper with Mr. Kapasi’s address, which blew out of her pocket book and into the wind.

The short story, Interpreters of Maladies, focuses on an Indian-American couple, Mr. and Mrs. Das, who are on vacation in India with their three children. They are chauffeured by an Indian taxi driver who developed an immediate affection for Mrs. Das. His imagination focused on comparing Mrs. Das with his wife in a sensual manner.

The strawberry necklace around Mrs. Das’s neck, which rested between her breasts serves as a symbol of her sensuousness. Mr. Kapasi’s infatuation for Mrs. Das started at this point. He found her irresistible. The strawberry resting between her breasts on the tightly fitted undershirt styled blouse, reminded Mr. Kapasi of the ripeness of her breasts as a symbol of her femininity. He watched her through the rear view mirror. This allowed him to daydream of an irresistible relationship with Mrs. Das, one he never had with his wife.

The naked statutes at the Sun Temple were symbols of intimacy to Mr. Kapasi and Mrs. Das. Mr. Kapasi watched her reactions to the naked statutes and their love making positions. He was pleased that she stopped every three or four paces and stared at the carved lovers and topless females. He also gazed at the topless figures as his mind wandered on Mrs. Das with intensity while he subsequently gazed with affection upon her profile. This led to his continued daydreaming about her. He saw her in a more sexually appealing way than his wife.

The slip of scrap paper with Mr. Kapasi’s name and address which was in Mrs. Das’s pocketbook signified a connection between them. He even daydreamed about having future contacts with her. However, when she revealed to him her secret of infidelity regarding her son Bobby’s birth, it changed their relationship from positive to negative. She was not pleased by his reaction, walked away, and went in search of her husband and children. When they re-entered the taxi, the paper with the address blew out of Mrs. Das’s pocketbook and into the wind. The only person who noticed the paper as it blew away was Mr. Kapasi. This served as a symbol of loss infatuation to Mr. Kapasi. The event signified the ending of their relationship.

This short story by Jhumpa is authentic, original, and enjoyable to read. I like this story because it is closely related to reality. It touched on events that could possibly occur on a daily basis between individuals in various settings. The symbols in the story provided enrichment to the text and enhanced its interpretation. It is a great story which should be read by individuals interested in understanding various cultural myths and symbolism.
